Let’s just all agree that Papaoutai by Stromae is one of the best songs of our generation. When I first heard it, I had no idea what it meant, but I still wanted to get up and dance to it. The beat is incredible, and the dancing is extraordinary! And in my opinion, certain parts of the dance routine actually teach us some deep lessons about life.
There’s this one part of the choreography that I just love. It’s a random scene where two guys are standing behind a truck, then they take out two bags from the back of their truck, and just when you think they’re going to put the bags on the backs and walk away all sad and weighed down, they throw the bags under their legs and start dancing. To me, that part right there is the highlight of the music video. They made what could be a boring, tiring task so much more fun. It’s just fantastic!
Can’t we do that with other things in our life maybe? If you have something boring to do, something that’s maybe just difficult and daunting, try to make it fun somehow. So you have to clean your big old house. Why not play some music and dance while you do it? So you job is packing groceries on the shelves. Why not listen to entertaining podcasts while you do it? You don’t have to go through life bored out of you mind because none of things you have to do are any fun. Choose to spice up to your life. Find your dance in all situations.
Life can be so much better if we just throw the bags under our leg. Now, excuse me as I go play Papaoutai on repeat for the hundredth time.
As always, cheers to life!
